The Mavericks have hired Legends Global as their owners’ representative for the team’s upcoming venue construction project. Legends Global will represent the Mavs’ interests from pre-design through commissioning the building and closing out the project. As is the case with owners’ rep work, Legends Global will oversee budgeting, project schedules, the quality of work and risk control, while liaising on the team’s behalf with architects, contractors and other involved parties.
The Mavericks, who have played at American Airlines Center with the Stars as co-tenants since 1999, announced in June that they’re building a new arena and entertainment district on a portion of 104 acres in the Valley View area of Dallas.
The team is still conducting due diligence and working through required zoning changes for the former mall site, and it hasn’t made any concrete moves yet concerning an architect or contractor. The Mavs’ AAC lease expires in summer 2031.
Legends Global will also run premium-seating marketing and sales for the Mavericks, with a dedicated staff on the ground in Dallas using a data-backed sales strategy to try to maximize the team’s new venue opportunity. The Mavs hired CAA Sports in February to run the new arena’s naming rights and founding partner sales work.
Legends Global SVP/Business Development Matt Goodman was formerly CRO for the Mavs, though primarily under the team’s previous owner, Mark Cuban. The Adelson and Dumont families bought a controlling interest in the Mavericks from Cuban in late 2023.
Legends Global has handled the Mavs’ in-venue merchandise at American Airlines Center since 2014 and has a strong presence in Dallas through its association with the Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones.
But its owners’ rep work has largely focused on stadiums, ranging recently from the Bills’ nearly opened Highmark Stadium to NYCFC’s Etihad Park (opening in 2027) and the Browns’ Huntington Field (opening in 2029). The Mavs’ likely multi-billion-dollar project will be Legends Global’s biggest arena owners’ rep gig yet.
