LIV Golf could have an on-course presence at the U.S. Open next week, as the USGA has no regulations in place preventing golfers from wearing the logo of the upstart league on apparel or headgear. A USGA source said, “There is nothing that would prohibit players from competing in this week’s LIV event from wearing LIV apparel at the 2022 U.S. Open." Several golfers -- including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia -- are scheduled to be at the U.S. Open, which is taking place outside Boston at The Country Club. The USGA earlier this week said it would not exclude those playing in the LIV Golf series from playing in the year’s third major.
Mickelson made waves on Thursday by wearing a black vest featuring a blacked-out Masters logo when he teed off in the inaugural LIV Golf event. He shortly thereafter changed into another black vest that did not feature the logo.
