Media Notes

Fox will broadcast the Hawaii-Georgia Sugar Bowl on January 1, and Fox Sports said that it “has already ‘put a stop to one’ … viewing party in Hawaii where admission was to be charged and will continue to ‘discourage’ the practice as the game approaches.” Fox Sports VP/Communications Dan Bell said, “We want as many people as possible to watch the Sugar Bowl, it is just the instances where viewing parties are advertised using the logo and marks of the schools and admission is being charged that we want to discourage” ( HONOLULU ADVERTISER, 12/21 ). AND THE WINNER IS: SI's Richard Deitsch listed his '07 Media Awards, and Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer was named Person of the Year. Citing Glazer procuring a copy of Patriots videotape of the Jets sideline, Deitsch wrote, “The list of organizations more secretive than the NFL isn’t long (the Kremlin, CIA and MI-6 come to mind), which makes Glazer’s investigative work this season all the more impressive.” Other honorees include CBS’ Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson as Best Announcing Team; Fox BCS analyst Charles Davis as Best Newcomer; and ProFootballTalk.com as Best Non-Corporate Web Site ( SI.com, 12/20 ). HEADS UP: The PGA Tour has signed a deal with Scottsdale-based Head2Head to manage its fantasy games at www.pgatour.com. The new media group is also in talks to build a branded page on YouTube.com that could offer a mix of tournament highlights and user-generated content, similar to pages currently branded by the NBA, NHL and MLS ( Jon Show, SportsBusiness Journal ).
