Oregon State AD BOB DE CAROLIS ' decision to resign , effective June 30, "was at least in part" because OSU President ED RAY "recently informed him that his contract would not be extended" beyond '16. De Carolis: "I respect that. When you first hear those words, it hits you in the gut. But very rarely do people stay on a job for 17 years -- 13 as the athletic director -- and walk away on their own accord." He added, "We're all good. It's a good thing for everybody, and I think it's a good thing for Oregon State" ( OREGONLIVE.com, 5/20 ).

DURHAM DOLLARS : Duke basketball coach MIKE KRZYZEWSKI "received, again by far, the highest pay of any Duke employee, receiving a total compensation" of $7.3M for '13-14. That includes just under $2M in base, $1M in bonus, $1.3M in deferred or retirement, and $3M in other compensation. The pay is more than he received in '12-13, less than he received in '11-12, and "roughly equal to what Duke paid him" in '10-11 ( BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/20 ). Duke's federal tax return stated that "just more than" $2.3M of Krzyzewski's pay "had been reported as deferred compensation on prior years' returns. Meanwhile, Duke football coach DAVID CUTCLIFFE 's total compensation was $2.05M, including "just under" $1.5M in base compensation and "slightly more than $475,000 in bonus pay." AD KEVIN WHITE 's total "was a little more than $950,000, including about $865,000 in base pay and no bonus money." Women's basketball coach JOANNE MCCALLIE 's total compensation was "just under" $1M, including more than $760,000 "in base pay and $156,000 in bonuses" ( USA TODAY, 5/21 ).

MY BLUE HEAVEN : Kentucky basketball coach JOHN CALIPARI 's contract extension means his deal "now expires on March 30, 2022, and guarantees him" $54M over the next seven seasons. He will make $7M next season, $7.25M in '16-17, $7.75M in '17-18 and $8M in "each of the last four years of the contract." There are "no bonuses for on-court performance and the only incentive, as was the case under the old deal," is for the program to maintain a score of 950 in the NCAA's APR. That would "earn him another $50,000 per year" ( Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 5/21 ).
