Facebook has "withdrawn from the bidding" for streaming rights to Thursday night NFL games, according to a source cited by Soshnick, Frier & Moritz of BLOOMBERG NEWS. The source added that Facebook likes its videos to be "commercial-free and balked at the NFL’s traditional advertising model." The source said that early morning London games that come with the deal "were also a turn-off." Soshnick, Frier & Moritz noted Verizon, Yahoo and Amazon "are considered contenders for the rights." The NFL has used negotiations to "aggressively court technology and telecommunications companies eager to serve so-called cord-cutters" ( BLOOMBERG NEWS, 4/1 ).
