New PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan Draws Admirers With Uncanny Social Skills

"Monahan"

Admirers of new PGA Tour Commissioner JAY MONAHAN say that he has an "uncanny ability" to connect with others, according to a profile by Jim McCabe of the BOSTON GLOBE. Monahan: "I truly, truly love being around people, to know about them, to talk to them. I think it's the ultimate way to get better as [a] person." Not to be overshadowed is his "innate ability to make an immediate impression." It is why he was "entrusted to organize" the Deutsche Bank Championship at 32 and was "promoted within a year of arriving" to run The Players Championship. Monahan's predecessor TIM FINCHEM said, "He's from Boston, and he's Irish. Making a relationship is a slam dunk for him. Makes me jealous." Finchem added, "He doesn't have a negative moment in his day. I mean, he is a total glass-is-half-full individual, and I think you'll see that as we go forward" (BOSTON GLOBE, 1/15).
