Mitt Romney's Family Reportedly In Early Talks To Buy Small Stake In Yankees

Former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney denied he is involved in negotiations to "buy a small stake" in the Yankees, but members of his family are "in talks" for a stake in the club, according to Jon Heyman of FANRAG SPORTS. Tagg Romney, Mitt's son, and business partner Spencer Zwick are inquiring about the stake "through the family company, Solamere Capital." If the deal is completed, it is expected to be $25-30M "per percentage point," and the Romneys are "thought to be interested in one or two percentage points." The Romneys reportedly offered $1.4B "many months back" to buy the Marlins. If the Romneys "complete the purchase of the Yankees piece, that would seem to take" Mitt Romney "out of the Marlins picture." Mitt Romney is a lifelong Red Sox fan who is "sensitive to being associated" with the Yankees (FANRAGSPORTS.com, 2/23).
