CBS Sports Chair Sean McManus believes sports programming is "becoming increasingly more important to broadcast networks." Appearing on "The Seth Davis Podcast," McManus said, "It used to be that all the sports were migrating to cable." McManus mentioned events like the British Open (weekend broadcasts) now being broadcast on NBC after leaving ESPN, and more NASCAR races "coming back to network television" as examples. He said, "I am a firm believer that the highest-profile sports, which we concentrate on at CBS, are still very viable properties for the CBS television network." McManus believes sports properties get "better distribution, bigger distribution" with network TV. But he noted the "biggest problem" facing CBS is "maintaining our big properties on broadcast television." McManus: "We are competing against other networks ... who don't mind losing tens and hundreds of millions of dollars on properties" ("The Seth Davis Podcast," SI, 2/28).
