Lucky Number 13? Augusta National Buys Land That Could Expand Amen Corner Hole

Augusta National has "finally secured the last piece of its course’s border and made room for the possible expansion of its iconic 13th hole by acquiring land from its neighbor Augusta Country Club," according to a front-page piece by Scott Michaux of the AUGUSTA CHRONICLE. Plans for the 13th hole "haven’t been disclosed," but acquiring the land "gives Augusta National more control of its perimeter, allowing greater access for maintenance and tournament infrastructure as well as providing a wider cushion around the par-3 12th green to possibly clear more trees to allow better sunlight and air circulation" (AUGUSTA CHRONICLE, 8/8). Golf Channel's Brandel Chamblee said, "The one thing I have always thought is great about Augusta National is in spite of the fact it has this revered history, they're never afraid to change that golf course to fix something that they view as an imperfection" ("Live from the PGA Championship," Golf Channel, 8/7).
