The team in a statement said Foster "will not participate in any football-related activities while the legal process unfolds, but the 49ers could set up external resources or support if he remains in the Bay Area, which he is expected to do." In the aftermath of Friday’s charges, the 49ers have "absorbed criticism for not releasing Foster," though the decision to ban him from team activities "does not suggest they have changed their stance on how they view his case" ( S.F. In DC, Des Bieler writes the longer GM John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan "keep a roster spot for Foster, who has a hearing on April 30, the more likely they are to face pointed questions about what behavior they do and don’t find unacceptable."
