LeBron, Nike Tackle "Humble Beginnings" In Latest Spot

LeBron James "ponders the oft-told story of how some superstars like himself emerged from 'humble beginnings'" in his newest spot for Nike, according to Mitch Reames of ADWEEK. In the spot, a "sequential montage shows some key moments in James' path, including the NBA title he helped the Cavs clinch" in '16 and the school he "opened in his hometown" of Akron in '18. The ad from Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, "feels like a thank you to Nike," and is a "rallying cry to open more opportunities for youth and end the cycle of said 'humble beginnings'" ( ADWEEK.com, 12/19 ). SI.com's Jimmy Traina wrote under the header, "Nike's Newest LeBron James Ad Is As Powerful As It Gets." It is "not breaking news to say that Nike knows how to make powerful commercials" ( SI.com, 12/19 ).

FASHION SENSE : WOMEN'S WEAR DAILY's Obi Anyanwu noted James has been tapped by Unknwn to "model looks from its first private-label collection." James, who co-founded the company, is shown "sporting looks from the Unknwn Collection, which will be sold at the company's stores" in Florida starting Friday.
