Donald Sterling Seeks To Delay Trial In Clippers' Ownership Case

A trial is set to begin today in L.A. in the Clippers' ownership case, but there "remains some question" whether it will begin on time after Donald Sterling "filed a motion to have the case moved to federal court." Lawyers for Shelly Sterling and Steve Ballmer  last night filed emergency briefs to "kick the case back to probate court" so a trial before Judge Michael Levanas can proceed as scheduled. However, "no judge has been assigned to the case due to the long holiday weekend, and it remains unclear if one will be assigned and able to rule on Donald Sterling's motion before the 8:30am PT hearing" ( ESPN.com, 7/7 ).

In one of the briefs, Shelly Sterling's lawyers argue the case "should be moved back to probate court without further hearings or briefings, in an effort to have a decision" before the July 15 NBA BOG meeting ( OCREGISTER.com, 7/6 ).

Cowboys' Planned Facility In Frisco Clears Final Political Hurdle

The Frisco (Texas) City Council during a “special Saturday meeting” approved the sale of $90M in bonds to fund the Cowboys' new team HQs and practice facility. It was the “final step of financial approval the city needed for the massive project.” Frisco Mayor Maher Maso indicated that construction “must be complete by the 2016 NFL season.” An official groundbreaking "will take place in August." The facility also will be used by the Frisco school district and “will have retail, residential and office space” ( DFW.CBSLOCAL.com, 7/5 ).
