Worcester (Mass.) Mayor Joseph Petty next week will ask the City Council to "direct the city manager to 'do all that is reasonably in his power' to facilitate" the Triple-A Int'l League Pawtucket Red Sox moving to Worcester. Petty last night said that the resolution is "meant to show" the PawSox that the "city and its people are enthusiastic about professional baseball returning." He added that the statement is "not meant to imply financial backing" for a ballpark, and that any discussion of funding or location "would be premature since the two sides have not even commenced negotiations" ( Worcester TELEGRAM & GAZETTE, 8/8 ).
