The Commanders have signed a three-year local radio rights deal with iHeartMedia DC, sending exclusive gameday broadcasts to WBIG-FM after 14 years on WTEM-AM, which has been owned by Audacy since '18. WTEM had held the rights uninterrupted since '08, the same year Commanders Owner Dan Snyder’s Red Zebra Broadcasting acquired the station from ClearChannel. Snyder sold the station in '18. Terms of the new contract were not disclosed, but in March, a team spokesperson foreshadowed a new deal as “the largest radio deal in the team’s history.” That was the same day a WTEM morning show host said on air the station would not continue as the flagship, citing a disagreement over the value. In a statement, Commanders President Jason Wright said iHeartMedia offers better reach.
The new deal includes shoulder programming and participation from the radio company’s talent at live events. Live games and archived broadcasts will also be available on Commanders section of the iHeartRadio mobile app.
