The NBA G League Ignite franchise is "preparing to relocate" from Walnut Creek, Calif., to Henderson, Nev., and The Dollar Loan Center for the '22-23 season. The Ignite "played several games last season at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob Ultra Arena." Sources said that a move to the Las Vegas Valley "was discussed internally for months as Ignite canvassed the area for viable venues." The Dollar Loan Center opened in March to host the Big West’s men’s and women’s basketball tournaments. It seats 5,567 for football and hockey, according to its website, "though capacity for basketball was not available" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 7/5).
The city of Henderson "owns the arena near The District shopping hub and Green Valley Ranch hotel-casino." But Golden Knights Owner Bill Foley’s sports and entertainment entity "runs the venue that houses Foley’s minor league hockey Henderson Silver Knights (the VGK affiliate) and the Vegas Knight Hawks of the Indoor Football League" (LVSPORTSBIZ.com, 7/5).
