Iger doesn’t talk YouTube TV, Disney dispute on ‘ManningCast’

Disney CEO Bob Iger was on the “ManningCast” last night and was “not explicitly asked” by either Peyton or Eli Manning about the carriage dispute between Disney and YouTube TV. Iger was in attendance at the Eagles-Packers, arriving for the final play of the first quarter and was gone with 12:30 until halftime. The conversation focused on how Iger “fell in love with the Packers as a boy and some discussion of the controversial ‘tush push’ play” (USA TODAY, 11/10). It is “genuinely shocking” that Iger even accepted the invitation to be on-air during the dispute if he was not going to provide some kind of update. Instead, he and the Mannings “blissfully acted like nothing abnormal was going on” (SI, 11/10).
Several people on social media reacted to Iger’s appearance.
Philadelphia Inquirer’s Rob Tornoe: “Disney CEO Bob Iger just appeared on the Manningcast, and Peyton and Eli didn’t ask a single question about YouTube TV blacking out ESPN. Not ideal.”
The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand: “They did not [ask Iger about YouTube TV]. Tough spot for the Mannings: ‘Upstate NY’ for Iger’s college and then no YouTube TV question.”
MLB works with sportsbook partners to set $200 limit on pitch-level market wagers

MLB worked with its legal sportsbook partners to create $200 bet limits on pitch-level markets and prohibit those prop wagers from being included in parlays.
The limitations were put implemented a day after federal prosecutors indicted Guardians Ps Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz for allegedly scheming with gamblers and intentionally throwing first pitches for balls to make money.
The league said the new measures are intended to mitigate integrity risks and maintain the transparency and data access that a regulated sports betting market provides.
“Since the Supreme Court decision opened the door to legalized sports betting, Major League Baseball has continuously worked with industry and regulatory stakeholders across the country to uphold our most important priority: protecting the integrity of our games for the fans,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “I commend Ohio Governor DeWine for his leadership on this issue over the last several months. I also commend the industry for working with us to take action on a national solution to address the risks posed by these pitch-level markets, which are particularly vulnerable to integrity concerns. We look forward to continuing to work with all stakeholders, including licensed sports betting operators, elected officials and regulators, to ensure we are always protecting the integrity of our game.”
X Games League signs Monster Energy as first founding sponsor
The X Games League has landed Monster Energy as its first founding sponsor.
The three-year deal extends Monster’s run as the X Games’ official energy drink since 2014, and it marks the first league-level sponsorship for the upcoming, team-based X Games League, which makes its debut next summer. X Games CEO Jeremy Bloom declined to comment on the value of the Monster deal but described it as a critical step as the XGL prepares for launch.
“We think it’s one of the biggest multiyear commitments in action sports,“ Bloom said. ”They’re really good at activation; if you’ve ever been to our events, they take over a really big space and they’re really thoughtful about how to activate with our fan base. And then of course you’ll see their green claw everywhere on TV, across our venues, field of play, things like that."
In addition to activating on-site at competitions, on live event broadcasts and in XGL digital content, Monster will also have a presence across the league’s summer and winter athlete drafts.
23XI Racing, FRM ask court for full deposition from Hendrick, Penske

23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports asked the Western District of North Carolina court yesterday to force Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick and Team Penske owner Roger Penske to “subject themselves to a thorough deposition” in advance of NASCAR putting them on the witness stand during the antitrust trial next month. 23XI and Front Row said that it “asked three times if Penske and Hendrick intended to testify and they said ‘no,’ leading to the surprise of their inclusion.” Thus, 23XI and FRM “motioned to have Hendrick and Penske appear for deposition interviews,” which the two men “pushed back on, asking the court to limit the scope of what could be discussed while also wanting the conversation to take place over Zoom and not in person.” 23XI and Front Row are asking the court to “order Penske and Hendrick to appear in person and suggest that the push back is akin to asking for special treatment.” 23XI and Front Row “could have motioned for the court to deny NASCAR’s motion to put them on the witness stand due to their late inclusion,” but the two teams “seizing an opportunity maximize the opportunity to get discoverable information” (MOTORSPORT, 11/10).
LSU has not ‘formally terminated’ Kelly, seeking to fire ‘for cause’ to avoid buyout

In a legal filing against LSU’s Board of Supervisors, Attorneys for former LSU football coach Brian Kelly said that LSU has “taken the position that it has not ‘formally terminated’ Kelly” as the football coach. According to the petition for declaratory judgment, the school is “now seeking to fire Kelly ‘for cause’ and potentially avoid paying a full buyout” of nearly $54M. According to the filing, Kelly’s lawyers are “seeking ‘a declaratory judgment confirming that LSU’s termination of Coach Kelly is without cause and that Coach Kelly is entitled to receive the full liquidated damages provided for in (his contract).’” If LSU had “cause,” then the school “would no longer owe the full amount of the buyout.” The suit does not specify who from LSU spoke to Kelly’s representatives yesterday, or what “behavior might constitute a ‘for cause’ dismissal” (ESPN.com, 11/10).

USA TODAY went with the header, “Tagliabue’s NFL legacy included a passionate embrace of diversity.” Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, who died Sunday at 84, was “so intentional in making a statement” by having Pro Football HOFer Art Shell present him for his induction in Canton. Tagliabue had said that he chose Shell because he “wanted to pay homage to Black coaches and to the impact that HBCU institutions had on the evolution of the NFL.” Shell “doesn’t hesitate to vouch for Tagliabue’s heart.”
