Cal Poly to build John Madden Football Center

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s football program on Saturday unveiled plans for the John Madden Football Center, named after late Pro Football HOFer John Madden, who was an alumnus of the school. The $30M, 30,000-square-foot project was announced during halftime of Cal Poly’s game against Sacramento State by Madden’s wife, Virginia, their sons, Mike and Joe, and grandson Jack, a Cal Poly nutrition major. The new team HQ will be "built beyond the south end zone at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.” It will include a "locker room, strength and conditioning facilities, a nutrition center, a lounge, offices, training rooms, a hall of champions, and a team-meeting theater that can seat 125 players.” The Madden family "led the donation effort for the center," but Cal Poly is "still seeking to raise an additional" $6M (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 10/2).
