An influential person in my career: My father. I greatly admire and respect him because of his work ethic and appreciation for family. His father passed away when he was 3 years old, so he was raised by a single mother. They always worked very hard for everything they had. He finished college in three years and then put himself through medical school to become an orthopedic surgeon.

A brand: Apple. Everyone who knows me knows my love of all things Apple.

In a hire: Curiosity.

A sports facility: Xcel Energy Center.

A fantasy job: CEO of Vail Resorts.

An invention: Fitbit.

Where I’m From: I was born and raised in Minneapolis and currently live in Des Moines, Iowa.

Where I Went to School: B.A. in economics and political science, St. Lawrence University; master’s of public administration, Columbia University.

My First Job: Waitressing at Perkins as a teenager. I served a lot of pancakes.

What I like about …

My job: Every day is different. It challenges me and makes me better, as a CMO and as a person.

Sports: I love fitness and, by extension, sports of all kinds. There is nothing like watching a good game.

Sports Technology: Our ability to use technology to continue to make sports safer.

Competing: It’s about doing things at a higher level, constantly trying to improve. To become better, faster, stronger … the best.

The future of sports business: Engagement rules, and the exciting challenge is continuing to find new and meaningful ways to connect with consumers — and their loyalties.

What I would like to …

See more of in sports: Technology to prevent injuries.

See less of in sports: Parents and coaches who cross the line into poor sportsmanship.

See less of in sports business: Covering up bad behavior and cheating.

See different: Less pressure on young athletes so they can have fun and love the game.

Eliminate: Life-threatening injuries to athletes.

What I don’t like …

In general: Bullies — in business, in sports and in life.

Pet peeve: Long, overly verbose emails.

In sports: Cheating.

In business: Dishonesty.

About sports fans: Rabid fans who forget it’s just a game.

That would surprise those who know me: I like a good celebrity gossip magazine.

Above all else: Family and faith.

Heroes: My parents.

Players: Tim Tebow for his humility and for who he is as a person.

Memento: My worker credentials from the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. I had the opportunity to help with the opening and closing ceremonies while I was a student at St. Lawrence University in New York.
