If softball has a GOAT, Patty Gasso may well be it. The eight-time national championship winner has turned Oklahoma into the sport’s preeminent program and become a face for its rapid growth in recent years. Gasso’s Sooners have been instrumental in driving interest and viewership in softball. The 2024 College World Series, which was OU’s fourth consecutive title, for example, set record numbers in viewership — the two games averaged 2 million viewers, with Game 2 peaking at 2.5 million — and attendance, with more than 12,000 turning out for the title game. — B.P.
