SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. -- Motor City Golf Club, the newest ownership group in TGL, also has bought a team in the soon-to-launch WTGL, the fourth team in the women’s indoor golf league. With TGL’s addition of Motor City Golf Club, the men’s league now sits at seven franchises, while the WTGL now has four. All four of those WTGL teams -- Detroit, L.A., Atlanta and N.Y. -- are owned by the same groups that own teams in the men’s league.

In this case, Motor City Golf Club’s WTGL team actually will compete before the TGL franchise. MCGC’s principal owners are Michael and Peter Hamp, members of the Ford family, owners of the Lions, along with Kevin Kelleher. Broncos owner Rob Walton also is part of the ownership group for MCGC. WTGL, which will begin play sometime this winter, currently has 14 players committed, though No. 1 Nelly Korda is not among them. WTGL has five of the top 11 in the world currently. Previous WTGL teams were reportedly sold for around $20M.
