The X Games are returning to video games, at least for a limited time in EA Sports’ Skate, the publisher’s skateboarding sim. This is the first time the X Games have appeared in a video game since Jeremy Bloom was named its CEO.
Skate (for PlayStation, Xbox and PC) will feature X Games-themed challenges, tasks and cosmetic items during its upcoming Season 4 as part of a competition known as “The San Van Open.” San Vansterdam’s stadium will take on a layout modeled after the New Orleans course from the MoonPay X Games League Championship. The X Games content runs July 21-Aug. 25. The event also will bring a progression system with missions and challenges inspired by moments from X Games history, designed around the athletes’ tricks used during competitions over the years.
EA Sports’ Full Circle studio, which makes Skate, also is adding voiceover for the first time for these challenges from X Games skater Dashawn Jordan.
The X Games worked directly with EA Sports on this partnership. Bloom was predictably coy about whether this limited content drop would develop into more, teasing to “stay tuned for more.”
