Peacock has hit its “first-ever quarterly profit” of $189M during Comcast’s Q2 on Thursday, “swinging from a loss” of $101M in the prior-year period, according to Lucas Manfredi of THE WRAP. It also added “2 million paid subscribers for a total of 48 million,” driven by the NBA playoffs, the World Cup and “Love Island USA.” Revenue for the service grew to $1.9B, compared to $1.2B in the year-ago period. The media conglomerate reported an overall adjusted profit of $3.71B on revenue of $29.9B, “beating Wall Street expectations.” The media segment “grew revenue 25.3%” to $5.7B, while profits “rose 3.7%” to $708M, “driven by higher domestic advertising and distribution revenue and the FIFA World Cup.” When excluding the World Cup, “revenue grew 15.6%” to $5.3B (THE WRAP, 7/23).
