The Players' Tribune Lays Off Eight Amid Shift In Business Strategy

The Players' Tribune has "laid off eight employees as the company looks to shift its business strategy going forward," according to Sahil Patel of DIGIDAY. Front Office Sports first reported the news on Twitter, and TPT CEO Jeff Levick "confirmed that the publisher had a round of layoffs" on Thursday. He "did not disclose which departments the cuts came from and declined to provide additional details on the new business strategy" TPT is pursuing. As of April '18, the publisher had 85 full-time employees in the U.S. The layoffs at TPT come at a "fraught time in digital publishing." Sources said that TPT, which has "yet to turn a profit," has raised more than $58M from investors including IVP, Google Ventures and Legendary Entertainment (DIGIDAY.com, 1/25).
