The U.K. government and London Mayor Boris Johnson today formally announced the decision to award the Olympic Stadium to EPL club West Ham United and Newham Council after the '12 Games. Today's approval comes a month after West Ham beat out rival EPL club Tottenham Hotspur to become the "preferred bidder to take over the 80,000-seat stadium" ( WORLDFOOTBALLINSIDER.com, 3/3 ). This comes despite "fresh warnings" from Barry Hearn , Owner of third-tier soccer club Leyton Orient, that he will "consider legal action." Hearn has warned the EPL that he will "sue for damages if it does not satisfactorily explain how the decision was arrived at" ( GUARDIAN, 3/3 ).
