UFC PPV buys strong, but short of record

The number of PPV buys for UFC 264 on Saturday will likely come in around 1.7-1.8 million, President Dana White estimated, a strong showing but one that’s short of the property’s all-time record. The event aired on ESPN+ PPV and was headlined by Dustin Poirier’s TKO victory over an injured Conor McGregor. Heading into the show, White had been touting the most pre-sale purchases ever and was asked to follow up on that in his post-event press conference. White said that as of 8:00pm ET on Saturday, there had been 1.2 million buys in the U.S. alone, and added that: “I have to be careful because we’re a public company … but I’m going to say that we came in anywhere between 1.7 million and 1.8 million.”

What is believed to be the all-time record is a mark of 2.4 million buys for UFC 229 in late ’18. That fight was headlined by Khabib Nurmagomedov defeating McGregor. ESPN sold UFC 264 for $69.99.
