Football media notes: Fox, USFL headed to court

  • Fox Sports and the USFL will be in federal court on March 16, when a judge will hear arguments on whether to grant a preliminary injunction prohibiting the use of original USFL intellectual property. Plaintiffs representing the original USFL from the 1980s sued Fox last week, claiming they don’t have rights to the league or team names. If successful in winning the injunction, it would prove a major challenge for the new league to start the league on April 16 as planned.
  • My colleague John Ourand and the N.Y. Post's Andrew Marchand broke down Troy Aikman's expected move from Fox to ESPN on their latest podcast. They also look at Joe Buck; Fox and ESPN's decisions; and what the next moves could be for Al Michaels and Amazon. Plus, Amazon's interest in Kirk Herbstreit and its willingness to approach $100 million for Sean McVay.
  • NBCLX, the broadcast and streaming partner of Fan Controlled Football, will announce a new podcast dedicated to FCF coverage tonight. The hook: It doesn’t have a name. Like so much else in FCF, fans will decide the name of the weekly pod through voting on the FCF app. The show, which will also serve as a pre-game program, is hosted by gamer Kahlief Adams. The show will be announced on NBCLX’s “Road to the FCF” that airs tonight at 8:30pm ET.
