Mets owner Steve Cohen will be announced today as the owner of the WTGL team for N.Y. Cohen, investing through his Cohen Private Ventures, already owns TGL’s New York Golf Club and has a stake in PGA Tour Enterprises through the Strategic Sports Group.
Financial details of the WTGL deal were not disclosed, though the startup league’s teams have reportedly been valued at around $20M.
TGL parent company TMRW Sports is launching the women’s golf league later this year in partnership with the LPGA. The New York team is the third to be announced, after teams in Atlanta and Los Angeles were acquired by Arthur Blank and Alexis Ohanian, respectively. Alex Morgan’s Trybe Ventures is the league’s lead investor.
The WTGL has thus far announced 14 players for its debut season, including Lydia Ko, Jeeno Thitikul and Michelle Wie West.
