The issue: The ICC had long desired to host a T20 World Cup in the United States, but the country lacked cricket venues. The solution: Build one.
Gist of the structure: Possibly the largest temporary stadium built in modern times (at least), and the world’s first and largest modular cricket stadium, the 34,000-capacity Nassau County Cricket Stadium took 106 days to build in a Long Island public park.
East and west grandstands, used during the Las Vegas F1 Grand Prix, stretched 40 rows high, while a slew of premium seating locations were created, too.
All of the behind-the-scenes necessary elements that would exist in any stadium, including broadcast and media facilities; power, lights, sound, video boards and plumbing; and food and beverage preparation capabilities and spaces were part of the project. The pitch, which was grown in Florida and transported to New York, was custom-built, too.
Noteworthy: The stadium hosted eight World Cup matches, including the India-Pakistan rivalry. After the event concluded, the stadium was dismantled over six weeks. The pitch was left behind for locals to enjoy but the structural components scattered, heading to a variety of next stops.
