Spurs C Victor Wembanyama, Fever G Caitlin Clark and Bulls legend Derrick Rose will appear on the covers of 2K Sports’ NBA 2K27. The latest entry of 2K Sports’ long-lived basketball video game sim launches Sept. 4 on PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S, Switch 2 and PC.
The three stars have one thing in common besides being skilled players: Wembanyama, Clark and Rose were selected No. 1 in their respective drafts and earned Rookie of the Year honors. Each graces a different version of NBA 2K27: Wembanyama is on the standard edition, Clark on the deluxe cover and Rose on the ultra box. Wembanyama is the first Spurs player to be on NBA 2K’s cover, with Clark being the first WNBA player to be on a premium edition. Rose, who played from 2008-24, was previously on the cover of NBA 2K13.
2K Sports worked with the NBPA, the WNBPA and each player’s individual representation for the NBA 2K27 cover.
Wembanyama and Clark are two of the biggest names in basketball but why is Rose among this particular group this year, beyond sharing No. 1 pick and ROY status?
“We’re really looking for players that are defining their generation and their position, and in Caitlin’s case, an entire league,” said NBA 2K General Manager Zak Armitage. “So, all of our selections this year are about players who are incredibly dedicated and obsessed with their craft and are defining what it means to play basketball in a new way. Derrick Rose did that as a point guard, going from being a traditional point guard ... to combining that athleticism and speed and scoring ability to redefine that position.”
NBA 2K26 was the bestselling sports game of 2025 in the U.S., per tracking firm Circana.
