Khan Talks Influencing Domestic Policy In Wake Of NBA-China

While addressing the NBA’s China controversy, Jaguars Owner Shad Khan drew a sharp distinction today between sports figures attempting to influence domestic policy versus other countries’ concerns. “We’re American citizens, I think we have a social civic responsibility to be active in causes we believe in,” Khan said on stage at the Yahoo Finance All Markets Summit in N.Y. “Do we have that same responsibility to really opine on sovereign matters in other countries? I think that’s the critical issue.”

Flex-n-Gate, an automotive components manufacturer owned by Khan, has factories in the Catalonia region of Spain, where a separatist movement peaked in '17. Khan stayed out of it. “I didn’t think, as an American, I should really be having an opinion on it, even though a lot of people wanted us to,” he said.
