The League of Legends Championship Series kicks off in L.A. on Saturday, launching the U.S. circuit's second season of League of Legends since publisher Riot Games sold permanent franchise spots. After developing a reputation for being slow to monetize its large fan base compared to some other esports properties, Riot Games has signed a flurry of sponsorship deals recently, including Mastercard and Dell Alienware at the global level. Riot Games co-Head of Esports Whalen Rozelle oversees League competition at a global level and predicts further commercial growth in '19.
