Positive Coronavirus Test Puts Reds’ Season on Pause

Two games between the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates that were scheduled to be played at Great American Ball Park this past weekend were postponed after one Reds player tested positive for COVID-19.

A makeup date for the games have yet to be announced, though Jon Heyman  reports that all Reds players tested Saturday came up negative for the virus, suggesting that it may be possible for the team to resume play later this week. Earlier this month, the Reds submitted a plan to the state of Ohio and Major League Baseball to have fans attend games at Great American Ball Park.

While the Reds were unable to play this weekend, the St. Louis Cardinals resumed play on Saturday after a 17-day layoff. The Cardinals had 18 members of its organization test positive for COVID-19, joining the Miami Marlins as MLB’s two clubs to sustain coronavirus outbreaks so far this season.
