MLS has extended Commissioner DON GARBER's contract through the ’23 season. The league’s BOG recently approved the new five-year agreement. Garber, who first became the league's second commissioner in ’99 and has broad ownership support, last signed an extension in ’14. He will be 66 by the end of this latest deal. During his time at the helm, MLS has expanded from 12 to 27 clubs, added 23 new owners and developed 19 soccer stadiums in the U.S. and Canada. This past year saw Garber formally announce expansion efforts in Nashville, Cincinnati and Miami. He also presided over the resolution of a situation that will see the Crew, an original MLS club, stay in Columbus, while Austin will get a club for the ’21 season. Over the summer, Garber was inducted into the National Soccer HOF. The next round of MLS media rights will come up after the ’22 season, when the current agreements with ESPN, Fox Sports and Univision expire.
